This eclipse begins its path in the Indian Ocean near the Cocos Islands, making its first landfall in Western Australia and traversing the Australian continent to the eastern end of Victoria, then crossing the Tasman Sea and both islands of New Zealand before leaving the Earth's surface in the southern Pacific Ocean.
Towns and locations within the path of total eclipse include Onslow, Tom Price, Paraburdoo, Capricorn, the Gawler Ranges (again), Whyalla, Port Pirie, Jamestown, Clare, Burra, Blanchetown, Morgan, South Australia's Riverland region, Ouyen, Swan Hill, Echuca, Shepparton, Omeo and Mallacoota.
